ZeitWhich dance fits onto this song? How do I hear the right moment to start? And what can I do to better stay in the correct timing?
If you are on a beginner level of the ballroom dances (e.g., after Ballroom 1 or 2), or you have been dancing ballroom for a while and still wonder about these questions, then this workshop is for you.
We will start by discussing basic terminology and typical structures in pieces of music in general, with the aim of better understanding how to match the counting (1 2 ...) to the music you hear. In particular, if you do not play any musical instrument, this theory background will facilitate your understanding of the dance music. Then, we will listen to examples of dance music to recognize both the general structures discussed before and the specific characteristic structures of the different dances. Of course, the workshop would be incomplete without some dance exercises to practice correct timing by using our new knowledge.
In addition to your dance shoes, you might want to bring pen & paper for note-taking.
Prerequisite: you know the basic steps of a few ballroom dances, so at least Ballroom 1 or equivalent.
