ZeitThis workshop is designed as a bridge between the TQ Salsa and Ballroom communities, highlighting the shared roots, rhythms, and movement principles of these dance styles.
The goal is not to turn Salsa dancers into competitive ballroom dancers—or vice versa—but to show that familiarity with one style already provides the tools to move to and enjoy the other. This allows dancers to feel more confident stepping onto a different dance floor, reacting naturally to unfamiliar music, and enjoying it rather than feeling lost. If you can dance to one kind of music, you can connect to the other as well!
Through guided examples and practical exercises, we will explore how concepts translate between Salsa Cubana and European Latin dances. In particular, we will focus on:
The main focus of the workshop will be on Salsa Cubana and Rumba (from the International Latin program, referred to as Ballroom at Tanzquotient). Depending on time and the level of the group, we may also include elements of Son Cubano and Chachacha (in both Cuban and International Latin style).
To broaden the perspective further, the workshop will conclude with a short comparison to swing dances, such as Jive or Lindy Hop, highlighting shared rhythmic ideas and contrasting movement qualities.
This workshop invites curiosity, openness, and playful experimentation—no strict boundaries, just movement, music, and connection.
The workshop is open to dancers who are confident in either Salsa or Ballroom (recommended level: Salsa 4 or Ballroom 4, or equivalent). Familiarity with one style is fully sufficient.
