Description

In this two-part workshop, we will take a closer look at how familiar Tango figures can be developed beyond their basic form to better express the unique character of the dance. Alongside revisiting known material from our regular ballroom courses, this workshop will also introduce new elements and variations that go beyond the TQ Ballroom Syllabus.

⚠️ This is not a beginner workshop.

In this advanced course, you will be provided with new material and compositional building blocks that can be used to extend basic figures, alter their endings, and build longer, more expressive amalgamations. The focus lies on creating strong shapes, clear contrast between the staccato and legato actions, and high movement quality.

Part 1

In the first session, we will work with the Natural Promenade Turn (currently taught in Ballroom 4). Starting from the basic version, we will introduce additional elements and variations, with a particular focus on the contrast between staccato and legato actions in Tango. By changing and extending the ending of the figure, including rock actions on the other foot, we allow the movement to continue.

Part 2

In the second session, we will transfer the concepts from the first evening to a different context. This time, we will explore a reverse figure that was previously taught as an optional in Ballroom 5: the Progressive Side Step Reverse Turn. Using the same approach, we will again add new material and adapt the figure, showing how similar ideas can be applied across different figures that even turn in different directions.

If time and the overall level of the group permit, we will also introduce the Natural Twist Turn (formerly taught in Ballroom 6 and no longer part of the TQ ballroom syllabus), and demonstrate how the newly learned material can be applied to this figure as well.

The workshop concludes with a short choreography that combines and builds upon the figures and ideas developed across both sessions, providing a practical and musical example of how extended figures can be linked into longer, coherent Tango amalgamations.

Prerequisites

The workshop is aimed at dancers who have completed Ballroom 4 or have equivalent experience. However, dancers who have completed Ballroom 2 and feel confident and curious to challenge themselves are very welcome to sign up as well.

Melody und Sascha haben den Workshop auf sehr tolle Art und Weise geleitet. Alle Variationen wurden mehrfach vorgezeigt und zusammen langsam geübt. Auch das individuelle Feedback war sehr hilfreich. Auch wenn der Workshop mit den vielen verschiedenen Variationen ziemlich voll war, hatten wir am Schluss sogar noch Zeit für einen kleinen Bonus.

Es war ein angenehmer Einsteigerkurs, und die Abwechslung zwischen den Tanzstilen hat Spass gemacht. Die Schritte wurden gut gezeigt und beigebracht, und anschliessen konnte man sie durch üben selber erlernen.

Unfortunately, there's not much time for slow fox within the basic curriculum of ballroom 1-6 @TQ, thus, workshops like this get even more valuable. So if you see this happening again, sign up is really a no-brainer. Especially if you're lucky enough to have it with Melody & Sascha. You'll love it.

For me, weaves were game changers. They provide so much more options and possibilities to dance and combine with other figures. I wish more people would know them so that we could dance them more often.. so if you see this happening again, especially with Melody & Sascha, don't hesitate to sign up, you won't regret it! :)

If you're also sad like we were that our ballroom curriculum @TQ is finished with ballroom 6, ask Melody & Sascha to do the 5+ & 6+ again, they are awesome! The additional figures, as well as Melody & Sascha. We had so much fun lesson by lesson, it was truly the highlight of the week! ..and most importantly, they're not only looking for, but also listening to all your feedback! Best course ever! Thank you Melo and Sascha for always making the best out of every lesson. We all had a lot of fun and learned A LOT. Both teachers are incredibly motivating and bring so much positive energy into the room. They are also very attentive and always take the time to kindly correct your steps so that every lesson comes with improvement. Theres a mix of professsionalism and fun so it never felt stressful but we still improved week by week. You can really tell how much passion both but into their teaching. I recommend the course to anyone who wants to improve their dancing while having a great time.

Melody is how I'd imagine an angel in dancing shoes, while Sascha is the most available (just come to any Mon open dancing) and helpful teacher I've got to know at TQ so far. Together they form a wonderful couple to teach you everything you'd like to know about ballroom dances, but also more if you're ready to be challenged. With them, the class is never over when your watch is saying so. Follower or leader, don't miss dancing with them and getting feedback on both following and leading. The classes were all fun and nicely structured, with great written summaries in the WA chat right after the class saying what has been learned / practiced that day. I'd highly recommend any of the courses with them!

Melody and Sascha manage to teach even the difficult new dances of Viennese Waltz and Samba in an engaging and fun way. Their attention to detail and focus on proper leading and technique made even complex figures managable. Great course and fun vibes, can only recommend.

Sehr toller Kurs, wirklich empfehlenswert. Melody und Sascha haben sehr gut gemeinsam unterrichtet und sich immer die nötige Zeit genommen, die Figuren mehrmals im Detail zu üben. Auch das individuelle Feedback war immer sehr hilfreich.

This is a great course for learning the basic steps of four dances. The teachers are friendly and open, and explain the steps well. The course is well adapted for complete beginners, and a good refresher if you already know the dances a little. Even though it is 4 hours long, it is not very tiring as the course is distributed throughout the day.
