Description

Lindy hop is a swing dance originally danced by African-Americans in New York in the 1930s and 40s. In the past few decades, it is experiencing a surge in popularity, with dancers' communities all over the world. Read more about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lindy_Hop

Lindy hop is...

Lindy hop is a couple dance - it is danced in pairs of one leader and one follower.

Lindy hop is a social dance - any leader can dance with any follower, even if they never met before. And every dance can be a new experience, very different from the other ones. This is why we change partners in class as well.

Lindy hop is an improvized dance - while choreographies do exist (mostly for performances), the vast majority of the time the the dancers (both the leader and the follower) are creating the dance on the fly, expressing what they hear in the music at the moment.

  • Lindy hop is an inclusive dance - everybody dances it - no matter the gender, the age, the physical strength, ...

  • Lindy hop is a fun dance - it is danced for the pleasure of the dancers - the first priority is for the dancers to have fun. Being great to look at is just a nice side effect 🙂

  • Lindy hop is a silly dance - many moves are silly on purpose - that's what makes it even more fun!

  • Lindy hop is a sporty dance - when the music gets fast, you better have many spare t-shirts.

In Lindy 1 we start from the scratch (no previous experience necessary). First, we get to know the right bounce, then we learn the first rhythm variations and end in 8 count moves: half and full promenades, circles, swing outs from side by side and from open position.

This is an ELEF class. That means, Everyone Leads, Everyone Follows! You will learn to dance in both of the roles from the very start. This concept enriches the dance and brings a lot of flexibility on the dance floor, since one does not depend on the presence of people in the opposite role. One can even switch roles during the dance, which can be even more fun! The dance roles are gender-independent anyway - both women and men can both lead and follow, and it is becoming increasingly common at parties to dance with people of both genders.

Very nice feature to add to your dancing, makes it a lot more fun and interesting, while giving you a better understanding of the opposite role. Michelle and Gabriel demonstrated very well and gave us an easy and playful intro into switch-dancing.

It was really fun. Although we knew the figures generally already, experiencing them from the other side and introducing the switch figures was a very fun experience and I'm eager to try them out on the social floor.

Als Einstiegskurs super, vor allem wenn man keine Tanzerfahrung hat und auch keine Ahnung von Lindy Hop hat.

We have learned a lot of very cool figures and I have gained a lot of confidence in dancing freely - the beauty of lindy hop is that there are soo many possibilities for creativity and little chance that you will do something "wrong" :)

I really enjoyed this course and found it very helpful for building a solid foundation. The lesson structure was excellent: warm-up, jazz elements, repetition, and then new material in a very logical progression. The solo exercises at the beginning were especially valuable, because they helped focus on rhythm, bounce, and musicality without overthinking direction or patterns. Michelle and Gabriel explained not only what to do, but also how movements should feel, often using very clear metaphors and preparatory exercises that made difficult concepts easier to understand. I also appreciated that the course was challenging in a motivating way: the material pushed us slightly beyond our comfort zone without becoming overwhelming. The group chat with videos was also a useful reminder of what we learned in class.

The course with Anja and Matej was wonderful! Their enthusiasm is infectious and makes every class fun. They also have a great sense for where things can get tricky and explain clearly how to work through those moments.

Great course! For anyone who (like me) did not do Lindy 1-3 at Tanzquotient don't be afraid to jump if you have a solid swing out and know some 6 count and 8 count moves, aswell as some charleston basics. Matey and Anja were great teachers and made me feel very welcome!

Lindy 3 introduces Charleston as alternative to the usually quite smooth side of Lindy Hop. It's highly active and it's lesson felt almost like a workout (in a good way!). Matej and Suzanne did a great job in making the lessons fun and energetic while making sure that everyone's skill level was taken into account, even incorporating requests for specific figures. Looking forward to Lindy 4 :D

the cours adds perfect to the previous courses and you can learn some pretty cool advanced looking moves. I liked it a lot! I think that both Matej and Luisa did a great job, can recommend a lot :)

Ich mochte den Kurs sehr! Matej und Luisa sind super sympathisch und mir gefiel der Schwerpunkt auf Charleston und dass wir damit eine ganz neue Seite von Lindyhop kennengelernt haben. Nach dem Tanzkurs habe ich immer so gute Laune :)
